What are compression stockings?
Compression stockings are often the first line of treatment for ineffective leg veins and poor circulation. They put pressure on the skin, helping to force the excess blood in the legs back upward toward the heart. Though they can make daily activities easier and reduce symptoms, they are not a cure for deep vein thrombosis (DVT) or varicose veins.
Compression stockings might make your varicose veins less noticeable and can reduce the swelling and discomfort that can result from poor circulation. They can also prevent the condition from getting worse.
Are compression stockings the right choice for me?
Scheduling an evaluation with Dr. Z. Hadaya at the Centers for Advanced Vein Therapy will ensure that you find the right treatment for your unique needs. Dr. Hadaya will perform a detailed review of your medical history as well as a complete vein mapping to determine the best treatment plan. Again, compression stockings will not cure your condition, but they can make you more comfortable and can make your daily activities easier.
What compression stockings are available at the Centers for Advanced Vein Treatment?
Compression stockings are usually designed for your unique body and situation, so they are usually obtained with a prescription but are sometimes available at a local pharmacy. They can then be purchased at our facility at a reduced price. Knee-highs, thigh-highs, and full stockings exist with different sizes and compression strengths. Dr. Hadaya will determine the best option for you and explain how you will obtain your stockings.
It’s important that your compression stockings fit properly. You will receive personalized instructions on when and how often to wear them. The stockings should be removed before bed.
